Mary Katrantzou Spring 2013 is All About Stamps, Money and Swarovski Crystal Mesh.

 

Mary Katrantzou used the theme of world history. She looked at postage stamps which transcend time and space as well as banknotes and their colors, patterns and images and all of the cultural significance that all of them have and created signature prints that she is known for. These prints were presented on white backgrounds and the silhouettes were clean with bold A-line dresses making a big statement.

The  gorgeous evening gowns were made from fabulous Swarovski crystal mesh\ that had been fused to silk brocade and printed in intricate patterns. A couple of trouser suits in navy and pearl were elegantly understated and had an adrogynous appeal yet looked glamorous.

Katrantzou's use of brocade integrated with Swarovski crystal mesh this season took her design abilities to a whole new level. A smart, intelligent designer who is constantly exploring, Katrantzou uses her keen eye and creativity to create masterful clothes and keeps her reputation as master of prints.

For this collection, she highly suggests not to look at the stamps or money in the collection but notice the colors, patterns and the prints and enjoy the beauty of it all. It is worth it. Full stop.

Mary Katrantzou Fall 2012

Mary Katrantzou is a wonderful talent because she is a master at experimenting fearlessly with shapes and prints, and in creating silhouettes that are just simply perfect and never look in any way over exaggerated nor out of sync. She found inspiration in household objects making the prints and designs turning out to be not only inventive but also pretty whimsical. Clothes hangers were arranged on a pale jade dress, while old fashioned rotary dials dotted a heavy silk dress with a billowing chiffon cape. Katrantzou worked with the embroidery house of Lesage and what came out of that were some
amazing creations, such as hundreds of eraser-tipped pencils sewn onto the tulip shaped skirt of a silk dress and sparkling sequins and crystals in graduating shades of blue for a bolero jacket.

Katrantzou also offered her prints in intartia print manipulation on sweater dresses. Standouts were a black sleeved one dotted with crystals, and a moss green number with silk embroidery, sequins and crystals. Always on point, Mary Katrantzou is a talent that has a vision that always carries the fashion world on a dream journey of print that only she can exquisitely do.

Print Master Mary Katrantzou creates Joy for Spring/Summer 2012

The theme for this collection by Mary Katrantzou is "nature versus nurture". This was a story that married natural and high-tech fabrics into single garments. She played out together her signature prints depicting tin cans, microphones and car parts with saturated natural forms, from flowers to coral reefs. This was a collection that was centered in joy filled with eye catching party dresses, fancy pants, and colorful knits. Cocktail dresses were made from pieces of plasticized and printed tulle, chiffon and bits of textured fabric.  I always look forward to see her collections. She is a true master of mixing prints in clever and creative ways.

Impressive Fashion Day in London

The collections presented today were impressive. Such well thought out designs perfect for ant woman to wear. They had retail as well as a collectible clout. Wearable and special and one of a kind all in one day. What more would buyers, stylists and editors want?
Young Thomas Tait (only 23 years young) is making his mark with his keen talent. I look forward to see more of his work. Mario Schwab, powerful mixture of leather and fabric. Mary Katrantzou pushed prints to the limit! Emilio De la Morena, Fashion East, and Meadham Kirchoff were all  deserving to present. Aquascutum did a fine job. The tailoring mixed with softness was brilliant. Roksanda Ilincic showed a collection that was sexy, elegant and modern. Cheers to you Roksanda!
London has a bit more to show. And I am sure a lot of people will be impressed some more.
