Ralph Lauren Spring 2013 is Sabor Latino!

Never has Ralph Lauren done anything Latin. For this spring he sent out a collection that had just that. Sabor Latino! The line up was elegant, flirty, fresh, elegant and sexy.

There were recognizable Ralph Lauren touches that had reference points such as Spain, Mexico and other Latin epicenters that were sensual and sultry. Even though the show ran a bit too long and was a bit literal there were clothes that had a perfect bravado that is so irresistible that had the designer's ethos.

When the first look, a frilled turquoise suede shirt over black pants came out the message was clear - exuberance, color and lots of accessories. The craftsmanship was exquisite. Surface textures enriched via crochets and embroideries. There was a casual attitude in the best looks regardless of the berets, jewelry, bandannas and array of bags.

The serapes were charming and were not even used as serapes but as an off-the-shoulder-top. There was a group of toreador looks that came through this line up that was a tad costumey yet not shy in showing the embroidery and beading that went into the pieces.

For evening there were some stunning and exquisite gowns like a passion red gown with a lacquered lace bodice and skirt with cascading ruffles and  a couple of them black embroidered, curvaceous stunners that were quite sensual.

Ralph Lauren Fall 2012

Downton Abbey is a popular show these days and the soundtrack of it came over the loudspeaker at Ralph Lauren and everyone who were a bit tired from seeing so many New York collections all perked up. The show has been so popular that the references in this collection has not been all that literal. The first group was all of men's wear for ladies.

The majority were tailored looks and mostly with pants. The outerwear was all in the mix as well, from a houndstooth greatcoat to a glen plaid double breasted style. Suits were plenty. A silk velvet three piece suit was the tops.

The evening portion of the collection was a mixture of sleek glamour - a line up of gold and black numbers with a shot of fuchsia gowns - and playful Twenties - a beaded flapper number and a black column dresses embellished with gold and platinum Art Deco embroideries. It was all very modern elegance.

Ralph Lauren has kept the looks classic and American which is his signature and has always been consistent with giving his clients exactly that.

Ralph Lauren is Influenced by the Twenties for Spring/Summer 2012

Ralph Lauren offered a very sophisticated and demure spring collection that was inspired by the looks of the Twenties. This was one of the most sophisticated collections for Spring 2012. The day looks of faded floral looks and "vintaged" sweaters were soft in colors, fabrics and silhouette all under cloches. The suits with pants or with shorts were so clean, crisp and polished. When the evening clothes came out I thought they stole the show. I absolutely loved every single piece. I wonder if Lauren was inspired by the wedding gowns he created for his daughter Dylan and daughter-in-law Lauren. He may have had a recollection of the glorious white collection of 10 years ago, which he designed before, but after, 9/11. Either way the beautiful white and silver gowns in satins, floral metallics and crystal encrustations, were quite the stars.
