Michael Kors for Spring/Summer 2013 is Optimistic.

Michael Kors looked at architectural geniuses Lautner and Neutra funneling their geometric bravado through his own optimistic viewpoint. "We're West coast dreaming," he said in a preview. In other words he expressed a burst of graphic zest with bold color statements and the blue sky was an optimistic presence on photo printed pants.

Kors opened with a girl-guy pair both in striped sweaters, hers a red-and-navy bodysuit, paired with a crisp, zipped-to-the-waist gaberdine skirt. This led into a great line up that was done with class and had a confidence in the way geometrics and colors were blended with each other.

Shifts in primary colors were fresh, color blocked dresses popped, a swimsuit in bold stripes, red and navy on top, green and navy on bottom were audacious. The sporty lady looks were mostly sleek, structured coats, suits, and dresses in bright white and brighter solids (red, green, canary yellow).

At night it all got quiet with a trio of classy, sexy black crepe gowns with tastefully done cut outs.
This is a collection that was clean and polished and had a nice twist to what classic and modern American sportwear and only Michael Kors can do it well.

Michael Kors is a Mixture for Fall/Winter 2012-2013

Michael Kors had a fabulous day at Wall Street the day before his show, with his company's shares rising 27.5 percent. The collection was definitely in the spotlight and it did not slow him down in a NY way from going onward and upward. Being in business for 30 years Kors has his formula down and it is definitely working. Of course there have been some rough years within these 30 years but Kors has always been happy to give his ladies glamorous, sporty clothes that are sexy and practical.

"What does American beauty really mean?" he asked in an interview. "At the end of the day, it's roughly elegant." This certainly was what Michael Kors sent down the runway which were looks that were highly luxurious and had an extravagance. All of it can be worn in Manhattan or up in Aspen. The furs came in shearling, Mongolian lamb and raccoon. For the women who want tamer outerwear can opt for the tartan chesterfields and striped blanket ponchos with deep fringe. There were accessories that included hats, neck ruffs, and a pack-for-a-week shoulder bags.

Daywear had quite a mix that was unexpected for example an almost conservative midi-length skirt paired with a knit lace tank bustier, or black leather adding edge to a grey plaid dress. Kors also worked  in a more ladyfied approach for smart dresses, one a strapless black wool stunner; another in black leather with black lace insets.

Evening had some wonderful stunners. The crystal beaded stretch jersey gowns in red and black with keyhole backs were beautiful.

Nature and South Africa Inspires Michael Kors for Spring/Summer 2012

Michael Kors said that if he could commute, his new South Beach would be the Singita Lodges in South Africa. He and his husband Lance Le Pere have been there three times. For this spring, Kors brought some of it with him to the runway. He had a lot to offer and the connection with nature with a mixture of modernity showed, inspired in part by Lauren Hutton and Peter Beard. The adventure was all set for in earth tones and easy silhouettes. Some garments were in gauzzy weights or heftier fabrics washed and rumpled for comforts sake, and for more flamboyant moments, floating georgette ponchos and caftans. There were some impressive pieces that refined the rugged. The palette of colors looked drab and the punches of rusts and orangy reds did not give a boost. The zebra prints gave a nice dose of graphic clarity. All in all this was a collection of practical chic with sex appeal and joy.
