Marchesa is India for Spring/Summer 2013.

What better than to look at India and its vibrant colors, enbroidery and its love of gold embellishments. For this spring Marchesa's Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig took a look at this country and really embraced its glory. They also cited the Sixties, when the Beatles turned to the Maharishi for their spiritual guru, as their inspiration.

Chapman and Craig approached India which was inspiring yet was a touch too literal. Draped dresses with elaborate adornments, saris, and midriff-exposing ghagra choli were shown and it was expected that some Bollywood musical would take place.

The collection did have its high points for sure. Many pieces were exquisite. One of which was a languid, white draped gown worn with gold embroidered illusion tights and the last dress in silver embroidery.

There is no mistake that Marchesa is supreme in eveningwear. It has an established reputation in high fashion and today anyone knows Marchesa and what it stands for. Beautiful clothes.

Marchesa expresses Soul for Fall 2012.

Marchesa went into a more sophisticated direction. Of course there is a need to design dresses for the red carpet and the Oscars, but there were a lot of shorter and lighter dresses. A beautiful white short dress with caped sleeves that looked light as a feather was beautiful and girly and another had rich blue embroidery on a delicate white dress. Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig were taken by the late Nineteenth century French painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau's  A Soul Brought to Heaven, which depicts two angels spiriting a young woman through the clouds.

You can see this inspiration in the winged embroideries and and the feathers that were details on some of the dresses. Four dresses that were extravagant ball gowns moved along the runway sweeping every one's feet, almost carrying Ingrid Sischy's phone which she accidentally dropped. She did pick it up in the nick of time. There was a darker side which came in dresses worn over skeleton-embroidered bodysuits and a laser-cut black dress which was elegantly tough.
Marchesa continues to be known for their unique and elegant designs and construction which are always looked forward to in every season.

Marchesa in the Underwater World for Spring/Summer 2012

"Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom" moved Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig to design a stunning collection that made me exhausted from being captivated by their confections. It was a pleasure to see runway presentation rather than an installation which they have shown for the past season because the designs are even more alive with a body in them and one can tell how a dress moves. The dresses were like elegant elements of this wonderful tale and  projected the colors and elements of the dreamy underwater world of this tale. Fringe was inspired by jellyfish and there were some exquisite mermaid like silhouettes that were absolutely dreamy. I am a HUGE fan of Marchesa and Georgina and Keren just do an amazing job every season and I am always looking forward to what they will create next. Next meaning a collection presentation before the Oscars. Who will wear their gowns at that time? We'll see. Eventually.
