Givenchy is Diving Deep for Spring 2012

Riccardo Tisci has been moving away from black which he loves and wanted to show a more romantic side which was reflected with powdery colors, undulating peplums and sheer, frothy fabrics which were surely feminine. After moving fashion into a print loving direction, Tisci has opted to be cleansed of pattern and to go deep sea diving.

There were some markings of some sea wolves that were hand-painted on sequins or leather, and a giant shark tooth pendant on a chain hanging against the rib cage. The show opened with a sleeveless blazer with low slung, peaked lapels and then there were that had menacing short tails worn with severe blouses and sexy scubalike pants. The tailoring and construction were extremely exceptional and innovative. Snug jackets with sprouting jabots moved like seaweed. Skirts had swooping hemlines and trailing streamers.

The climax of the show came when pieces came out with slashed leather fish scales and head to toe silver sequins. When Gisele Bündschen came out with a short and shiny algae green ensemble it was the perfect final look and she looked ravishing and sexy in it making her look like a queen of the ocean.

This is a beautiful Givenchy collection that will blow you out of the water.

Givenchy Couture Fall 2011. Dreams Do Come True.

Riccardo Tisci has been showing his Givenchy Haute Couture in more intimate installations in the grand corner salon of  Place Vendôme. It is a wonderful way in experiencing couture. This time having the designer being the tour guide of this magnificent collection, discussing the craft that he passionately and obviously respects and loves, was a treat. He explains his couture aesthetic, both provocative and captivating. It was enjoyable listening to him explaining their unique manifestations.

This Fall everything is made in white and rich in embellishments on silk chiffon or tulle. This line up is beautifully sexy and stunning. Everything must be seen at close up to see the most refined metal work imaginable that rendered one dress as stretches of fringe. Or the hand cut tulle paillettes that covered a dress that was inspired by a graduation project at Central St. Martins is mesmerizing. I appreciated the cat's eye pearls, illuminated by encapsulated crystals, attached with thick cashmere rosettes for his meatiest embroideries, on a cropped sweatshirt.

He explained the painstaking processes; one of which was an embroidery that was accomplished by artisans that wore white gloves as the tool minute stitches with invisible acrylic thread.
Each garment is a beautiful dream come true. All of them designed by Riccardo Tisci for the house of Givenchy.

Beautiful Blessings for Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2011 by Riccardo Tisci

Riccardo Tisci is a gifted and spirited talent indeed. He has been creating beautiful, modern designs that is attracting more admirers, if not more clients to the House of Givenchy. His passionate creative energy is continuously evolving and growing and there is no stopping it. There is no mistake that the forces of the universe put him in a position to work in one of the most luxurious houses in Haute Couture.

Riccardo Tisci

At 17 he went to London's Central Saint Martin"s College of Art and Design and graduated in 1999 only to go back to his home country to work for Antonio Berardim, Coccapani, Puma and Ruffo Research. He later designed his own line and showed it at the Milan Fall 2005-2006 shows. On February 28th, 2005 he was appointed creative director of Haute Couture, ready-to-wear and accessories lines for Givenchy. He loves romanticism and sensuality.
One of the darlings of Bernard Arnault of LVMH, he is most likely on the list of successors for creative director at the House of Dior. We will see if he is chosen when the time comes. In the meantime he is in the right place at the right time and for his Spring 2011 couture, he produced an exquisite group of masterpieces that expresses his passion for Haute Couture and all its metiers.

This beautiful collection was inspired by the Japanese dancer Kazuo Ohno and the crane as a symbol of Asian art. These brilliant pieces are truly works of art because they are mixed beautifully with Tischi's love for hard construction softened by delicate couture treatments. One outfit required 2,000 hours cutting and 4,000 hours of sewing.
I guarantee that he prayed before showing this collection, as he always does before a presentation.

And the powers that be, he delivered.

Paris is beaming with pride

Paris has done a great job so far in presenting fantastic collections with pride. And this pride is something that Paris has always had for a long time and it showed. In a beautiful way.
Phoebe Philo's designs for Celine demonstrated a warm, modern appeal that the rest of the world will be attracted to. She injected some fresh new ideas in some classic shapes. The coats and jackets are well tailored and streamlined. Turtle necks under sweaters with big bold stripes were perfect and some suits and dresses were impeccable. Beautiful modern pleated blouses and wonderful flared skirts were some great additions. Philo is doing a fantastic job at Celine and is truly appreciated.
At Akris the collection was a simple painting of autumn. The colors were the reds, sepia, yellows and even the autumn sky was captured in the blues. A perfect picture of fashion made with suedes, wools, satins, cashmere, vicuna with a touch of tailoring. The prints on the dresses of autumn trees amplified the imagination of the fall season. A perfect fall presentation. Thank you.
At Givenchy the collection was pretty and had a thread of alluring sophistication. Mostly in black, there were some violet flowers, gold detailing around jackets. some transparent tops and skirts which had some of the violet flowers on them This collection made me think that it was a little peculiar. I feel that without the cat hats, maybe the collection would have looked a little more polished.
Hermes went through a lot lately. And this collection designed by Christophe Lemaire gave a beautiful light hearted, luxe feeling to the house. A beautiful combination of coats and plush turtlenecks, Hermes prints of dream catchers on blouses and dresses, and a look that reminded me of the outer wear that I would see in the Gazette du Bon Ton and the illustrations in Vogues of the 1920's. Hermes should beam in pride with this collection. What luxury and what a collection!!!
A collection that triggered people here for beautiful and fantastic is that of John Galliano. It reminded everyone of Dior because of the style and inspiration of this collection. Tweed and wools looked so soft as jackets for some suits, a coat with a fur collar that frames the face, 1930's looking dresses that are cut on the bias that is a technique Galliano uses. It reminded me of the society women and Hollywood stars from the 1930's for sure.  A beautiful collection that had people wonder what is in the future for Galliano. The answer is: we don't know.
